Q. Why is a fire engine sent when I call for an ambulance? A. It may be the closest piece of equipment to a certain emergency. Most of the fire engines in the Franklin County area are set up as medic-engines. This means that they have trained paramedics on-board the fire truck. These personnel can start initial treatment prior to the arrival of the medic unit.
Q. How can I get a copy of a Fire Report? A. Fire reports may be obtained from the Department’s Secretary at 237.5478
Q. How can I get a copy of an EMS patient report? A. Medical reports for services provided by a Fire Department Ambulance are available at the Whitehall Division of Fire. Only the actual patient or a relative, with proper ID, may obtain these records. Again, the phone number to call is 237.5478.
Q. How do I request a tour of a fire station? A. To request a group tour of the fire station or to schedule a fire engine to visit your site, call the WDF Fire Prevention Office at 231.3627, Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Individuals may just drop in on us (or call).
Q. Do I need to register my Fire Alarm or Medical Alarm? A. The City of Whitehall requires that Fire/Medical alarms be registered with the Whitehall Division of Fire. Registration is free; however, a false alarm fee is charged if you go over three (3) false alarms per year. For information on registration or billing, contact the Whitehall Division of Fire, Fire Prevention Office at 231.3627, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
Q. Is there an Arson Hot Line? A. No, however, call 237.5478 and ask to speak to the On-Duty Shift Officer. They will take your information, advise you, and have someone contact you.
Q. If I have a complaint concerning Emergency 9-1-1 service, who do I call? A. For problems related to Police, Fire or Emergency Medical Service response, contact the appropriate department at: Police Department Communications Center, 237.6333; Fire Department Communications Center, Fire Department, EMS Office, 237.5478, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
Q. How do I report a complaint about a fire hazard? A. If this is an immediate life or property threat, dial 9-1-1. If it is a hazard or question about hazards, then call either the Fire Prevention Office 231.3627 or the WDF Business Line 237.5478.
Q. Can I get a fire engine to visit my child’s school? A. To set up a visit, have your child’s teacher call the Fire Prevention Office at 231.3627.
Q. How can I find out about Fire Safety programs available in Whitehall? A. Call the Fire Prevention Office at 231.3627. As our web site grows, eventually you will be able to find all the information in the Fire Prevention Section of the website.
Q. What is the best kind of fire extinguisher for my house? A. A multi-purpose fire extinguisher is best for the home. Look for the rating to be at least 2A:10B:C on the label. This extinguisher can be used on any type of fire commonly found in the home. It will often be labeled A-B-C.
Q. Is there a Juvenile Fire Setter Counseling Program in Whitehall? A. The Fire Department has an intervention program to disrupt the fire setting trends of young people. Call the Fire Prevention Office at 231.3627 for more information.
Q. How can I contact the Public Information Officer? A. Media requests and information regarding major fire/emergency medical service incidents may be obtained from the Public Information Officer at 237.5478.
Q. How do I request a Fire Inspection or register a complaint about a fire hazard? A. All commercial occupancies within the city are subject to inspection by the Whitehall Division of Fire. Inspections are initiated in a variety of ways: by request, citizen complaint, application for certain licenses/permits, and by routine inspection activity. To request an inspection or register a complaint regarding a fire hazard, call the Fire Prevention Office at 231.3627. Fire inspection reports may also be obtained from the Fire Prevention Office.
Q. Who do I contact for a plan review? A. For information regarding plans review of fire protection systems, fire lanes, flammable liquid storage tanks, etc. Call 237.8612.
Q. Can I get my blood pressure checked at the fire station? A. Yes, just stop by and let the dispatchers know.
Q. How do I apply for a position with the Whitehall Division of Fire? A. Contact the Whitehall Civil Service office at 338.3101
