Income Tax: Frequently Asked Questions


What is the City of Whitehall Income Tax rate and what type of income is taxable?

The income tax rate is 2%. Generally, gross income (including income which is deferred) and business net profits are taxable at the local level.

Can I prepare my City of Whitehall Income Taxes online?

Yes, all residents may use the City’s webtool to prepare their 2007 tax return.  However, they must print the return, attach all W-2(s) and federal schedules and mail them to the City of Whitehall by April 15, 2008.

Starting in 2009, residents with Whitehall W-2 income only may be eligible to file electronically.

Can I receive assistance in preparing my city of Whitehall tax return?

Yes. The Income Tax Division personnel can assist you either by mail or in person. The Income Tax office is open Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday. Please call (614) 237-9803 or visit the Income Tax Office at 360 S. Yearling Road. If you visit the Tax Office please bring with you a copy of your Federal Income Tax Return and all W-2’s and 1099’s. These will help us assist you in thoroughly preparing your Whitehall Income Tax Return.

How do I determine where my local tax is owed?

Local tax is due first to the city in which the income was actually earned and secondarily to your city of residence, based on their laws.

What is Tax Fraud and where can it be reported?


Examples of Tax Fraud are fraudulent employer W-2 forms, unrecorded payments to employees, unlicensed businesses, failure to file tax returns, failure to pay or correctly report taxes, tax evasion activity and unreported income.

Tax Fraud can be reported to the Tax Fraud Hotline at 614-246-7862.  The idenity of all callers will remain confidential and their complaints(s) and/or allegation(s) will be thoroughly evaluated and, where appropriate, investigated in a timely manner.

Anyone wishing to report tax fraud or tax abuse to the City of Whitehall is encouraged to contact the Hotline immediately.  With the information received, further tax fraud can be prevented.

 



Who is the Tax Commissioner?


Kim Maggard, the Auditor of the City of Whitehall, is the Tax Commissioner.

The Deputy Tax Commissioner is Michelle Carberry.



Does the City of Whitehall have mandatory tax filing?


Yes, all Whitehall residents (age 18 and over) must file annual income tax returns, whether or not they have been fully withheld and/or have paid a municipal income tax to another community.  The Whitehall Income Tax Return is due on or before April 15, 2008
